The Bicentennial Anniversary of the Township of McNab/Braeside was held on the grounds of the Municipal Office Complex on Saturday June 28th. This free community event provided an opportunity for residents and visitors to explore 200 years of history, stories, and adventure! The crowd was entertained by live musical performances by Renfrew Highland Pipes & Drums, The Dennis Harrington & Heritage Country Band, and the SALC Brass Ensemble. The event included a BBQ and strawberry social, games and activities, a petting zoo, Indigenous displays, a tartan weaving demonstration, a video slide show representative of 200 years in the Township and historical memorabilia. McNab/Braeside Council, along with MPP Denault, MP Gallant and Councillor Sarazin from the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation welcomed guests. The Bicentennial provided an opportunity for veteran families to reminisce and for new families and visitors to learn about the community's rich history.
Storytelling is one of the oldest and most powerful ways humans preserve and pass down knowledge, culture, and identity. Long before written language, people shared their experiences, values, and lessons through spoken word. We are grateful to Anita Schubrink, Irene Robillard, Marilyn Misener, Brian Gilhuly, Jim Austin, Pierre Desrosiers and Councillor Robert Campbell for indulging the crowd with their tales of our community.
Thank you to the many hands who contributed to this event. Special mention to the volunteer members of the Bicentennial Committee, The Arnprior Agricultural Society, Arnprior McNab/Braeside Archives, Anishinabe Odjibikan, Bob Hinchley and the McNab/Braeside Fire Department.
