Fire Department and Education

Fire protection in the Township is provided by three fire stations, ten fire vehicles and 40 volunteers. In addition to this there are mutual aid agreements with fire departments in Renfrew County and the North end if Lanark County. The Fire Department provides a range of services for 7,000 residents in an area of 100 square miles which include: fire prevention and public education, auto extrication, ambulance assist, fire suppression, shore base water rescue, and farm equipment rescue.

Public Prevention & Education
Your Fire Department is available for fire prevention and public education presentations to various groups, clubs and associations. Please take advantage of this service. Quick link to OFM site

Burning Regulations
In accordance with the current burning By-law 2001-22, there is no burning allowed in the Township. Please contact the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief concerning burning regulations. Quick link to Bylaws

Green Lights
Volunteer firefighters use green flashing lights when responding to a call. Please be courteous and give to right of way. They may be responding to your home or a family member's.

Vehicle Replacement
The Township is progressive in replacing equipment on a regular basis so that your insurance rates do not increase due to the fact that insurance companies do not recognize fire trucks that are over 25 years old

Tanker Shuttle Accreditation Certification
The Township has received this designation resulting in lower homeowner insurance rates. Residential properties within 8 kms by road and Commercial properties within 5 kms by road of the Fire Station may qualify. Please contact your insurance company for additional information.

Training
Training is an essential part of being an effective Firefighter. Each volunteer trains an average of five hours per month at each station and a general practice Auto extrication is held once a month for an additional three hours.

Other Activities
In addition to emergency responses and training each year, our volunteers participate in local carnivals, Muscular Dystrophy, CHEO and the annual fund raising golf tournament.
